There is an amazing view on the other side of the causeway. Unfortunately, the road is quite rough, and we had a couple people outside the car acting as spotters so we wouldn’t get caught on a rock. Anyway, the view is astounding if you can make it (click here for a rough panorama) and on the rock wall opposite the turn to this little outlook is an interesting assembly of calcite coated debris. In the lower image above, you can see those elongated pieces near my finger- I believe those are coatings that formed around twigs or reeds.

You’ll see a sign for the prehistoric site and a dirt road on the left (South). If you look to the South you’ll see Olorgesailie, an extinct volcano. Notice how flat the land is around you- this used to be a lake ~1 my ago! The volcano is about 1760m high.
