Peter began his career at E.J. Longyear in Minneapolis working mainly on projects in the Western United States. He then served as a mine geologist for two mining companies in Canada until 1971 when he opened his own contracting business in the Red Lake Mining District. He closed his contracting business in 1992 and is now a consulting engineer.
Peter served as Reeve (Mayor) of Cochenour Township for several years. He is an avid traveler and fisherman. He has been a private pilot since 1955 and has served as a commercial pilot flying twin engine aircrafts from Hudson Bay to Northern Manitoba.
Peter graduated from Michigan Technological University in 1961 with a BS in Geological Engineering.
Cathy began her career at Shell Oil Company in the Michigan Basin
Development Engineering - Production Department. One of her many
duties included qualifying as an expert geological engineering witness
at a proration hearing which lasted over two years. Cathy then joined
the South Texas Development Engineering - Production Department as
Process Manager for on-shore well drilling and planning, and is a
member of the Property Acquisition Evaluation Team. While in this
position, she made recommendations for well development, coordinated
budgets for development engineering, led two Field Asset Management
Teams, and authored and presented several papers. In 1996, Cathy
became Technical Manager of Shell Offshore, Inc. in New Orleans and is
responsible for offshore drilling prospects.
Cathy has been a volunteer with the Gulf Coast Alliance for Minorities
in Engineering helping students complete science projects for school
science fairs and talking to classes about careers in engineering. She
coached teams of middle school children at Engineering Olympics and
judged science projects at local high school science fairs. Cathy
enjoys horseback riding and serves as president of the Greater Houston
Hunter/Jumper Association.
Cathy received her BS degree from Michigan Technological University in
Geological Engineering in 1983 with high honor.
Jim has 33 years of experience at Gannett Fleming in Harrisburg,
Pennsylvania where he is currently a Senior Vice President and a member
of the firm's Board of Directors. His experience includes water
resource planning, landfills and contaminated site remediation,
geotechnical and geological studies, mineral investigations and
development, and dam and flood control works engineering. Jim is a
Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania and Arizona and a Professional
Geologist in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Indiana, North Carolina, Virginia,
and Florida.
Jim has served his profession as a member of the Board of Directors of
the National Society of Professional Engineers, President of the
Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers, and President of the
Harrisburg Area Geological Society. Jim has also served the community
as a member of the Boy Scout Troop Council and the Swatara Township
Planning Commission. He was honored as Engineer of the Year,
Harrisburg Chapter, of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional
Engineers in 1993.
After serving in the Army, Jim graduated from Michigan Technological
University in 1959 with a BS in Geological Engineering followed by an
MS in Geotechnical Engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines
and Technology in 1963.
Jim began his career in 1957 as a geologist at US Steel in Hibbing,
Minnesota. Four years later, he began a 33 year career with Cleveland
Cliffs Iron Company rising through the ranks from geologist to
operating engineer, pit superintendent, plant superintendent, and
finally, general manager. During his tenure, he worked at the
Humboldt, Republic, Tilden, and Empire Mines. Currently, Jim is a
self-employed senior consultant.
Jim is very active in the community. He is an active member in his
church; a former member and past President of the Ely Township Board of
Education; former member and past President of NICE Community Schools
Board of Education; member of the Board of Directors of the NICE
Community Schools Scholarship Foundation; member of the W. K. Kellogg
Foundation Site Advisory Council for Alger and Marquette Counites;
volunteer in the W. K. Kellogg Foundation Positive Youth Initiatives
Program in West Marquette County; member of the Groundwater Advisory
Committee, GEM project, Marquette County Health Department; member
Greater Ishpeming and Marquette County Commissions on Aging; and member
and past chairman of the Upper Peninsula Section of the American
Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers.
Jim received his BS in Geological Engineering from Michigan
Technological University in 1957.
Kelly began his career working on a short project for the Michigan
Geological Survey with K. Spiroff, and when the project was completed
moved on to become a mining engineer with the Tennessee Coal, Iron and
Railroad Company in Birmingham, Alabama. After the heat forced him
north again, he joined North Range Mining Company where he rose rapidly
through the ranks to Assistant to the Manager. From 1947 to 1963, he
was engaged by Cleveland-Cliffs as Assistant to the Chief Engineer and
later as Chief Engineer. He was also actively involved in the opening
of the Ohio, Humboldt, Republic and Empire Mines. His leadership as
General Manager from 1963 to 1983 of the newly-formed Eveleth Taconite
Company helped contribute to its growth of a six million ton per year
operation. Kelly retired in 1983.
Kelly served as Chair of both the Upper Peninsula and Minnesota
Sections of the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and
Petroleum Engineers - Society of Mining Engineers. He is the Director
of the United States Hockey Hall of Fame in Eveleth, Minnesota. He is
a member of the Duluth Scottish Heritage Association and an active
member in his church. Kelly was honored with the MTU Board of Control
Silver Medal in 1982 and was inducted into the Michigan Tech Academy of
Mining Engineers in 1995.
Kelly received a BS in Geology and a BS in Mining Engineering from
Michigan Technological University in 1939 with honor.
Greg began his professional career as a project geological engineer for
Buchart-Horn of York, Pennsylvania. He then served as a senior
geological engineer at W W Engineering & Science of Grand Rapids,
Michigan and then as division manager of Sundberg Carlson Associates of
Marquette. In 1991, Greg opened MJ Environmental Consultants, Inc. of
Marquette where he serves as President.
Throughout his career, Greg has published several articles on
groundwater, subsurface mapping, and pollution. He has presented these
papers at several conferences and symposiums, some internationally.
Greg is an avid fisherman and runs a charter boat on Lake Superior out
of Marquette.
Greg graduated from Kellogg Community College in 1978 with an Associate
Degree in General Studies-Environmental Science. He earned a BS in
Geological Engineering from Michigan Technological University in 1983.
This was followed by post-graduate studies in groundwater modeling at
Western Michigan University and an MS in Business Administration at
York College in Pennsylvania.
