Guatemala has been a focus for our work, because for the past 40 years it has hosted three open vent volcanoes.  Fortunately there are many others in the world.  There is Villarica and Lascar in Chile, where we have worked occasionally.  There is Masaya in Nicaragua and Stromboli in Italy.  And Kilauea, Etna and many more. It is useful to watch the active process and we think it leads us to understanding all types of volcanoes.
