These are the instructions to the FTP site: the site itself will be > 5 Gb, and will hold data for the Summer workshop on volcanic clouds (II).

General Instructions (switches are bold, user specificies Italics, comments follow;)

Ø ftp –i hostname

;ftp the host. -i turns off the prompt for mput ie no y/n typing) enter the login name and password provided for guests of the volcano group

Ø mkdir Your_Name

;generate a directory with your name on it eg. mkdir Rose

Ø cd Rose

;ftp is case sensitive - ie cd rose will not work

Ø bin

;change the transfer type to binary

Ø mput data

;wildcards (*) are useful. eg mput *.tdf will move all the terrascan files to the ftp directory without prompting ;(you can go home).

Ø bye

;exit ftp

Please email me once you have ftp'd your data telling me - name, directory name, file names etc. We can utelise most types of data – .hdf, .tdf, generic binary, ascii, and raw data from AVHRR, GOES etc we are used to. McIDAS still causes us problems, sorry.
