sandstone

Sandstone is a sedimentary rock made up of sand size particles, which are pieces of other rocks---like a fine grained conglomerate. in the keweenaw there is an abundance of red sandstone which formed from the weathering and erosion of the huron mountains over eons. at jacobsville, on the keweenaw, the sandstone was quarried extensively and the rock was used in buildings all over america. you can see it everywhere in the region, including our own campus.
