Geologic History

The lecture gives the illustrated geologic history of the Keweenaw, which preserves two important brief periods in Earth’s history:  1. The ancient Keweenaw Rift when enormous lavas poured out onto a continent that was splitting apart, and when native copper was deposited within the lava sequences and 2. The Great North American Pleistocene Glaciation, which resulted in the lakes and landscapes of today and which tell us about global climate changes.
