Education

2007 - present                                     Michigan Technological University                                                Houghton, MI

Ph.D. Candidate, Department of Geological and Mining Engineering and Sciences.

Research involving ground- and space-based remote sensing of volcanic emissions in Central America (Guatemala, Nicaragua).  Involves development of an ultraviolet camera for sensing SO2 emissions and evaluation of measured emission rates alongside simultaneous geophysical datasets.

Supervisors: S. Carn and G. Waite

2004 - 2006                                         Simon Fraser University                                                                                Burnaby, BC

Master of Science candidate, Department of Earth Sciences.

Research on Masaya Volcano, Nicaragua, involving measurements of the volcano's SO2 and aerosol emissions.  Included evaluation of previous measurement methodology, suggestions for improving such methodology, and evaluation of environmental effects of the volcano’s emissions.

Supervisor: G. Williams-Jones

2000 - 2004                                          McGill University                                                                                             Montreal, QC

B.Sc Honours in Earth Sciences.

Graduated with First-Class Honours.

Undergraduate honours thesis comparing the relative performances of a RMDI UV spectrometer (new ground-based remote sensor of volcanic emissions) and the previous sensing standard, COSPEC.

Supervisor: J. Stix

Summer 2003                                      University of Hawaii, Hilo                                                                                         Hilo, HI
