The USGS has created
a table of remote sensing applications related to the visible and IR bands
captured by Landsat. These applications include agriculture, forestry and range
resources; land use and mapping; geology; water resources; coastal resources;
and environmental monitoring.

The Landsat satellite
uses an Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+) instrument that collects 8
spectral bands in blue, green, red, near infrared, infrared, shortwave
infrared, thermal infrared, and panochromatic across a 183km wide swath. Bands
1-5 and 7 have a 30 m resolution, band 6 has a 60 m resolution, and band 8 has
a 15 m resolution. The following sites have more information about the
