... my Master's ...

Throughout the years, I became a monitoring/volcanic hazards freak.  I met many of the top volcanologists in the world and learned a lot from all of them, especially that even though I was just a student, my work and my opinions were appreciated.  I visited lots of places and volcanoes around the world, at Indonesia, Hawaii, the Phillipines, and the Lesser Antilles.  Things really got clear, and I was seeing the end of the tunnel towards my degree.  So, it happened, and one awesome summer day I graduated and now I am here, a Caribbean girl at one very cold place.  Anyway, for the second time I have to make some decisions and I think that the first step towards my research idea was to decide where to go.

When I found myself with the difficult task of choosing where to go for my Ph.D., I actually had my options put in front of me.  I had the opportunity to participate on a one month "field trip" to the Big Island of Hawaii, Bali, East Java, and the Phillipines.  This was all because of the IAVCEI General Assembly 2000 in Bali, Indonesia.  These conferences are the key to opening your mind in terms of what kind of research is being currently done, who is doing it, and meeting people and making important connections.  During this trip I met a lot of graduate students and volcanologists from the top volcanology institutions in the US, and I guess that after that I applied to most of them.  It was quite a decision to come here, but it was not so difficult after talking about possible research opportunities.  So, after my visit I decided to come here, and start my graduate studies at MTU, where I hope to get all the knowledge and experience necessary to become a better and more complete volcanologist.
