About Me

Hola!  What can I say about myself... my whole name is Lizzette Alexandra Rodriguez Iglesias etc. etc...  Yes, in Puerto Rico we use our mom's last name as well... which seems to be very confusing to the people from the US, especially for official documents.  But well, I was born on October 8, 1975, at Hospital Perea, Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.  Mayaguez is located at the western tip of the island, a beautiful and quiet coastal city, although it is the fourth largest city in the island.  And yes, I live pretty close to increadible beaches... it is a tropical paradise and summer all year long.  I come from a very big family... I have an older sister, Nyleen; a younger brother, Norman; and a younger sister, Esther.  My parents are the best in the world and I miss them all the time.

So what am I doing here, at cold Michigan... good question.  I did my undergraduate studies and my Master's degree in Geology, at the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez.  It was the best time of my life, but then came the moment to decide what's next, and Michigan Tech was at the top of the list for my Ph.D., as soon as I came to visit.  I came here and it has been almost a year already.  I have a research project on mind and a very good committee.  I have already spent time on the field, on Central America, and have learned a lot.  In later sections you will learn more about my research and how I came to decide what it would be.

This is my Ph.D. advisor, Dr. Matt Watson.  Above, he is posing with the DOAS at Casa Adobe, San Pedro de Atacama, Chile.  Left, he is at the observatory of Fuego volcano, Guatemala.  Below is Matt after a hard day of field work at Pacaya volcano, Guatemala (Jan 2002).

Here we are, Yvonne and I, Matt's Ph.D. students, at Pacaya volcano (Jan 2002).
