Tasks for Hydrogeological Characterization and Ground Water Development.

Task Number

Activity(ies)

Description

Task 1

Information Search

Gather well and lithological data

Task 2

Data Synthesis

Using well logs, construct geological cross sections and hydrogeological maps.

Task 3

Develop Conceptual Picture(s) of the Hydrogeological Setting(s)

Interpret the hydrogeological information to develop a conceptual model of how water is entering, leaving, and residing in the study area.

Task 4

Identify Remaining Areas of Uncertainty and Develop a Plan to Obtain Needed Information

Areas where not enough data of acceptable quality exist will be identified and assessed as to whether further study or measurements are needed to gather more information.

Task 5

Additional Site Characterization

Field reconnaissance and geophysical surveys will be conducted to confirm published data and to better characterize bedrock and water table elevations.

Task 6

Mathematical Modeling

Identify appropriate analytical and/or numerical models that can be used to analyze pumptest data and to describe regional flows within the conceptual picture(s) developed in Task 4. Determine the data requirements for the selected models and model configurations. Verify models against historical data.

Task 7

Model Sensitivity

Using models and model configurations that most closely match the historical data, conduct parameter sensitivity analyses to determine which parameters are most important and may require further study to define with more certainty or will have the biggest impact towards future well development.

Task 8

Delineation of Recharge Areas

Utilize the model(s) to identify the aquifer recharge zones and evaluate their potential for being impacted through anthropogenic activities.

Task 9

Forecast Future Conditions

In conjunction with tribal planners, develop predictions of future water supply conditions that incorporate potential community development and changes in water usage and demand.

Task 12

Final Report and Presentations

Summarize the study findings in a project report and give presentations of findings at meeting with interested tribal planners.
