STUDENT REGISTRATION
Geology of Utah's National Parks is designed as an introductory field course for geology majors, as well a hands-on opportunity for teachers and education students to see new teaching methods demonstrated.  The course introduces students to making and recording observations from the rock record and synthesizing these data into reasonable interpretations.  We hope to introduce primarily freshman and sophmores to the methods employed by geologists to understand how rocks, particularly sedimentary rocks, record information about local, regional and global changes through time. Through experience we hope to encourage this understanding and to introduce geologic terminology.  Students do not need a strong background in geology to take this course -- instead, this course should provide an excellent foundation for all future studies. The mix of students, teachers, and students preparing to be teachers enhances the development of basic geologic skills and understanding. The ultimate goal is to develop the ability to solve problems through data collection, consultation with geologists, and development of new, reasonable geologic interpretations.
Undergraduate and graduate students taking this course will enroll in GE2900. It is a 3 credit course. Enrollment is limited to 20 students. Because of the limited enrollement and because it is designed to include geology majors, education students and teachers, students must obtain permission to enroll. In order to enroll please contact Dr. Jackie Huntoon or Dr. Gregg Bluth to inform them of your interest and to initiate this process. Information about enrollment, based upon your student status here at MTU, is included below.
If you are a current student of Michigan Tech, simply enroll for GE2900 during the summer registration held in the spring or via web registration after you have obtained permission from either Dr. Huntoon or Dr. Bluth.
If you are not a current student of MTU, but have attended MTU in the past, contact the registar's office. You should not need to reapply to MTU, but the Registrar's office will be able to assist in re-activating your enrollment.
If you are not or never have been a student at MTU, and are not a current student at another university, you will need to apply to MTU.  Once you have completed the application steps and obtained instuctor permission, simply follow the above steps.
If you are a current student at another university, you need to fill out a Guest Application Form. You should be able to obtain this from the university you are currently attending or call toll free: 1-888-MTU-1885 to obtain one from the MTU registrar's office. A $30 application fee must be included with this form. Mail the completed application and your admission fee to:

If you must apply to MTU (because you are not currently a student at another university AND you are not or have never been a student at MTU) please be sure to contact Dr. Huntoon or Dr. Bluth about taking the course. We'd hate to have you pay your admission fee to MTU only to find out that the class was full!
