Drive to Unaweep Canyon south of Grand Junction, CO: Distribute equipment, introduce rocks and minerals, practice with compasses and GPS, and introduce topographic and geologic maps.

Unaweep Canyon: Sedimentary structures, orienteering, geologic contact mapping.

Gateway: Measuring stratigraphic sections, introduction to alluvial fans, orienteering continued.

Drive to Moab: Paradox Valley (sketching, introduction to oil well drill core and well-logging), Canyonlands National Park Island in the Sky District, Upheaval Dome, Shafer Trail Overlook.

Megatracksite: Sketching, field data collection, speed calculations. Evening hike to Delicate Arch (optional).

Arches National Park: Devil’s Garden Trail and Double-O Arch.

Drive to Blanding: White Mesa Uranium District and environmental geology.
