"Landslide activity in Panama can be divided into geographic categories:
(1) landslides outside the Panama Canal Zone caused by heavy rainfall or earthquake activity, and (2) construction and post-construction landslides along the Gaillard Cut of the Panama Canal. Most of the recorded slope failures not related to the Canal have been caused by earthquake activity in this seismically active nation." (Stewart and Stewart, 1989).
