GE512, Petroleum Systems of the Michigan Basin

Spring Quarter, 2000

Narrative

This course is designed to give an overview of the Michigan Basin as it relates to petroleum geology. It will focus on the primary literature (journal articles and special publications). Buddy Wylie and/or I (Jackie Huntoon) will be prepared to lead most of the discussions, but in order for discussion to occur everyone must have read the material and taken time to think about it before class. To ensure that all the reading is done, a short quiz will be administered at the start of each class period. These quizzes will not be difficult. They are meant only to encourage everyone to read the articles. What do you discuss in a discussion? Things you don’t understand (maybe someone else does and you can learn from them), ways that the techniques or other information could be applied in addition to the ways described in the paper. What you learned from the paper. Just about anything can count as discussion. Your grade in the course will be based primarily on your contribution to the course. The quizzes will only count 25% toward your grade.
