Morning Update
0700H 10 May, 1996

The level of activity at the Soufriere Hills volcano during the night has been at about the same relatively low level as observed during the day time. Seismicity continues to be dominated by the occurrence of small rockfalls. A single episode of low amplitude broadband tremor lasting one hour started at about 03:40 on 10 April and was recorded at the seismic stations closest to the volcano. A few small long period events and hybrid earthquakes were also recorded.

The low cloud cover that has been present over the volcano during the past five days continues to restrict visibility.

The present level of activity at the Soufriere Hills Volcano continues to cause concern to the scientists. The MVO continues to urge that visits to the evacuated zone be kept to a minimum. The Tar River, Long Ground and Whites areas are extremely dangerous, and should not be entered under any circumstances.
