Morning Update
0700H 01 May, 1996

Activity at the Soufriere Hills volcano during the night has remained at the same relatively low level observed during the previous day. Seismicity continues to be dominated by near-continuous low amplitude broadband tremor recorded at the nearest seismic stations. Several rockfall signals and long period earthquakes were also recorded.

Visibility during the early morning period from Bramble Airport and the Observatory has been low to fair. There is continuous steam emission from the dome but very little rockfall activity was observed from the airport.

In spite of the relatively low level of activity, the MVO still views the situation at the Soufriere Hills Volcano with grave concern and the scientists continue to urge that visits to the evacuated zone be kept to a minimum. The Tar River, Long Ground and Whites areas are extremely dangerous, and should not be entered under any circumstances.
