Montserrat Volcano Observatory

Daily Report
Report for the period 16:00 on 7 March 1996
to 16:00 on 8 March 1996

The seismic activity observed during the period under review was consistent with the activity during the past week. Sixteen long period earthquakes were recorded by most, and frequently all seismic stations in the network. Several of these events may have been rockfalls within the crater area. The Gages seismic station continued to record fairly vigorous venting activity throughout most of the period. This is probably due to an increase in fluid movement within the volcano.

Due to very poor weather and low cloud cover no EDM measurements or visual observation were carried out.

Mr Uche Osuji returned to the Seismic Research Unit this morning after a period of three weeks at the MVO. Mr. Osuji assisted with the processing of seismic and EDM data.
