Morning Update
0700H 01 January, 1996

One (1) volcano-tectonic earthquake, with a focal depth of approximately 1 km, was located in the Long Ground area. There were six (6) long period events which were recorded at most seismic stations. Broadband tremor continued intermittently and at variable amplitude. This tremor was still only recorded on the Gages seismic station and is most probably due to increased steam emission from the crater area. A large regional event was recorded at 05:39 this morning, but its precise magnitude and location cannot be calculated with the local seismic network data alone.
