Daily Report
Report for the period 16:00 on 29 December
to 16:00 on 30 December 1995

Three (3) volcano-tectonic earthquakes were located during this period at depths in the range 1 - 7 km: one just south of Windy Hill, the second just offshore to the east of Montserrat and the third in the Brodericks estate area. Six (6) long-period events were recorded by most of the seismic stations of the network, with one at 00:57 on 30 December being especially large. Broadband tremor continued intermittently and at variable amplitude throughout the period but was still only recorded on the Gages seismic station. Three (3) regional events were recorded but could not be located by the local seismic network.

EDM lines were measured today to Castle Peak from Long Ground and White's. None of the lines measured showed any significant change from yesterday's measurements.

Visual observations were made today from the helicopter and from White's Yard and Harris' Lookout. From measurements at White's, the upper surface of the eastern part of the lava dome has grown by less than 1m (3ft) in the last 24 hours. The latest spine, which from aerial views appears to project out of a broad dome base, is still clearly visible in the west part of the crater but does not appear to have grown much during the past 24 hours . There is still continuous steam emission from several vents in the crater region.
