Report for the period 16:00 on 8 November
to 16:00 on 9 November 1995

Fifteen (15) earthquakes were located during the period under review. The events were scattered beneath the Soufriere Hills Volcano with a few located beneath Windy Hill, Garibaldi Hill and Long Ground. The events were mainly volcano-tectonic with focal depths in the range 0-5km. Ten (10) long period events were also recorded.

One eruption signal was recorded at 04:19 on the 9/11/95. The Kinsale-Amersham-Plymouth-Richmond area was the main focus for the heavy ashfall generated by this event. Several millimetres of ash accumulated in some areas.

The Tar River line was remeasured today. The measurement indicated a continuation in the shortening trend observed previously. The rate and total amount of shortening remain below levels of concern.

An attempt to examine English Crater from Chances Mt. was made this afternoon. Thick cloud prevented any views of the crater area.
