to 16:00 on 28 October 1995


There were ten (10) earthquakes located during the past twenty-four hours. The events were located in the southern part of Montserrat, mainly beneath the Soufriere Hills Volcano with focal depths ranging from 0-5km. The events were mainly volcano-tectonic.

One eruption signal was recorded at 08:55. No reports of any ash fall were received at the Observatory. Steam emission was also reported from the July 28th vent during the afternoon by the helicopter and Blackburn Airport control tower. A short period of broadband tremor was recorded at around 17:30 yesterday afternoon.

EDM measurements were made at the Tar River site. The result for Tar River shows a slight decrease compared to the value obtained yesterday.

Visual inspection of English's Crater was made by helicopter. There are no indications of any major changes.
