Daily Report
Report for the period 16:00 on 07 October
to 16:00 on 08 October 1995

There were 33 located events during the period under review. These were mostly clustered beneath the Soufriere Hills volcano with a few events located close to Long Ground. The earthquakes were generally of a shallow depth (0-5km) and were mainly volcano-tectonic events. There were also two long period events and there was also a long period tremor of three minutes duration.

There were two eruption signals which occurred at 02:35 and 03:47 on Sunday 8th October. Reports of light ashfall in Amersham and surrounding areas, may have been associated with the first and more distinct eruption signal.

Electronic tiltmeter observations continue to show no genuine deformation events.

The EDM line at Tar River was re-occupied today. A similar trend to that noted in previous reports continue to be observed at this station. During occupation of this site it was noted that the July 28th vent is once again emitting a limited amount of steam.

Field teams were sent to Chances Peak to attempt a visual examination of English Crater, however thick, low level cloud and fog prevented this from being done.
