Montserrat Volcano Observatory

Daily Report
Report for the period 5 p.m. 15 March 1999
to 5 p.m. 16 March 1999

The volcano remains quiet. In the last 24 hours 19 rockfall signals and 5 volcano-tectonic earthquakes have been recorded.

A small collapse event occurred in the Tar River Valley today, generating a weak ashy plume.

Microgravity measurements were made at Whites Yard, Harris and Corkhill to link the series of measurements made on the east and west sides of the volcano. A new continuous GPS receiver was installed in the South Soufriere Hills today which transmits data back to the observatory.

Residents of Montserrat are advised to keep listening to ZJB Radio Montserrat for information in case of any changes in the state of the volcano.
