The level of volcanic activity at Soufriere Hills volcano was low today. There were 24 rockfalls, 10 volcano-tectonic earthquakes and 1 hybrid earthquake.

Further surveying of the dome took place today and a new observation site on Galways Mountain was accurately located using GPS.

The miniCOSPEC was used today to calculate the sulphur dioxide flux from the volcano, the average daily flux was 483 tonnes per day. The sulphur dioxide flux was also measured on Friday 29th January, the average daily flux then was 1243 tonnes per day.

Residents of Montserrat are advised to keep listening to ZJB Radio Montserrat for information in case of any changes in the state of the volcano.
