Montserrat Volcano Observatory

Daily Report
Report for the period 5 p.m. 21 December
to 5 p.m. 22 December 1998

Activity at the volcano has been at about the same level as yesterday. During the reporting period there were 23 rockfall signals, 2 volcano-tectonic earthquakes and 2 hybrids events.

There were two periods of vigorous ash venting, between 7:37 and 9:14 p.m. last night and between 8:15 and 9:43 a.m. this morning. These events did not result in any deposits of ash in occupied areas of Montserrat.

Dr Willy Aspinall left Montserrat today after another month long tour of duty at the MVO.

Residents of Montserrat are advised to keep listening to ZJB Radio Montserrat for information relating to any further developments in the state of the volcano.
