From MVO@candw.ag Sun Dec 6 10:28:22 1998 Date: Wed, 2 Dec 1998 17:29:35 -0400 From: MVO To: "evening report:email" , "Willy (email) Aspinall" Montserrat Volcano Observatory Montserrat, W.I. Report for the period 5 p.m. 1 December to 5 p.m. 2 December 1998 In the last 24 hours the seismic networks recorded 7 rockfall signals and 17 volcano-tectonic earthquakes. A team of scientists uncovered the Tar River Estate House GPS pin this afternoon from under a metre of ash and surge deposits. It will be occupied with a GPS station tomorrow for the first time since April. This will tell us how much this area has moved relative to other sites and add to our knowledge of the deformation due to the volcano. An attempt was made today to make COSPEC measurements but the bad weather meant that there was not enough light for these to be successful. Another attempt will be made tomorrow. Residents of Montserrat are advised to keep listening to ZJB Radio Montserrat for information relating to any further developments in the state of the volcano. 17:00, 2 December 1998
