Report for the period 5 p.m. 21 October
to 5 p.m. 22 October 1998


The volcano has been relatively quiet during the period of this report. There were 8 rockfall signals and 7 volcano-tectonic events during this period. Some intermittent ash venting was also observed occurring from the vicinity of the top of the dome near the spine .There was continuing strong fumarolic activity from the scar which was associated with the July collapse.

The latest cospec measurements today indicate a sulphur dioxide flux at a rate of day.350 tons per day

Residents of Montserrat are advised to keep listening to ZJB Radio Montserrat for information relating to any further developments in the state of the volcano.
