Montserrat Volcano Observatory

Daily Report
Report for the period 5 p.m. 6 October
to 5 p.m. 7 October 1998

The volcano was quiet again today. A total of 8 rockfalls and 6 volcano-tectonic earthquakes were recorded. One of the vts was quite large and occurred a few km offshore of eastern Montserrat.

EDM measurements made yesterday from Windy Hill to the reflector on the north wall of the crater above Farrell's showed continued shortening of this line, a pattern re-established a month or so ago.

Re-installation of telemetry equipment at Centre Hills was completed today so that all monitoring should be back to full capacity tomorrow after most equipment was taken in from the field to safeguard it during the passage of Hurricane Georges.

Residents of Montserrat should continue to check Radio ZJB in case of sudden developments in the state of the volcano.
