Montserrat Volcano Observatory

Daily Report
Report for the period 5 p.m. 15 June
to 5 p.m. 16 June 1998

The level of activity has remained at a low level. The seismic network has recorded 2 rockfalls signals and 2 volcano-tectonic earthquakes today. A strong mudflow signal was recorded at 2pm.

A series of GPS occupations have been over the last several days of sites around the volcano. The occupations indicate reduced rates of deformation. All the differences seen in the occupations over the last six to eight weeks are very small and are within the precision of the instruments.

Dust levels were low at all sites today.

Residents are reminded that the volcano remains in a potentially active state and that the loose deposits are readily mobilised by heavy rain. Residents should continue listening to Radio Montserrat in case there are sudden changes.
