Montserrat Volcano Observatory

Daily Report
Report for the period 5 p.m. 1 June
to 5 p.m. 2 June 1998

Volcanic activity has remained low today. 3 volcano-tectonic earthquakes, 1 hybrid earthquake and 1 rockfall triggered the network between 4 p.m. yesterday and 4 p.m. today.

Dust levels were low at all sites today. There was an extensive blue haze over Chances Peak and Galway's. A slight sulphurous smell could also be detected by people on H.M.S. Newcastle as she sailed past Plymouth this afternoon.

A GPS occupation of the Lees Yard station was completed today and another at St. George's Hill was started. These occupations are being carried out by the University of Puerto Rico in conjunction with MVO.

Residents are reminded that the volcano remains in a potentially active state, and that they should continue listening to Radio Montserrat in case there are sudden changes.
