Montserrat Volcano Observatory

Daily Report
Report for the period 6pm 2 May
to 6pm 3 May 1998

The level of volcanic activity over the past 24 hours has remained low.

Between 4pm yesterday and 4pm today there were 4 rockfall signals, 6 volcano-tectonic earthquakes and 2 hybrid earthquakes. The rockfalls were all small events and the volcano-tectonic earthquakes were all too small to be accurately located. The hybrid earthquakes probably represent shallower activity than the volcano-tectonic earthquakes.

Sulphur dioxide diffusion tubes were collected today from sites between Plymouth and Woodlands.

Dust levels at all monitoring stations were low today.

Residents are reminded that the volcano remains in an active state, and that they should continue listening to Radio Montserrat in case the present quiet situation at the volcano changes suddenly.
