Montserrat Volcano Observatory

Daily Report
Report for the period 6pm 12 April
to 6pm 13 April 1998

The level of volcanic activity over the past 24 hours has remained low.

Seismic activity was also low: between 4pm yesterday and 4pm today there were 10 volcano-tectonic earthquakes, 8 rockfalls and one hybrid event.

Visibility was good initially today, but deteriorated with heavy rain during late morning. Visual observations of the dome showed it to be unchanged since yesterday.

Excursions into the field were made to collect samples from the Boxing Day deposits, and to re-establish GPS and theodolite sites in the south of Montserrat.

Work continued on the broadband seismometer installations today.

Dust levels at all monitoring stations remained low today.

Residents are reminded to keep listening to Radio Montserrat for any further information.
