Daily Report
Report for the period 6pm 8 April
to 6pm 9 April 1998

The level of volcanic activity over the past 24 hours has remained relatively low. However, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of recorded earthquakes.

Between 16:00 yesterday and 16:00 today there were 25 volcano-tectonic earthquakes, 1 hybrid earthquake and 6 rockfalls. There have also been a number of very small earthquakes that do not trigger the seismic network, but are observable on continuous data.

Visibility was very poor today and no visual observation of the dome was possible.

Work commenced today on the installation of a new seismometer in the South Soufriere Hills.

Dust levels at all monitoring stations were low today.

Residents are reminded to keep listening to Radio Montserrat for any further information.
