Montserrat Volcano Observatory

Daily Report
Report for the period 6pm 5 April
to 6pm 6 April 1998

The level of volcanic activity over the past 24 hours has remained relatively low.

Between 16:00 yesterday and 16:00 today there were 7 volcano-tectonic earthquakes, 4 hybrid earthquakes and 5 rockfalls.

A broadband seismometer is now in operation at a site on Garibaldi Hill. Work is continuing on re-installation of further seismometers.

A series of static photos were taken of the dome today from locations around the volcano. The summit area was particularly clear so these images will enable a more accurate assessment of the dome volume to be made.

Dust levels at all monitoring stations were low today.

Residents are reminded to keep listening to Radio Montserrat for any further information.
