The level of volcanic activity over the past 24 hours has remained low, although there was a slight increase in the number and size of the recorded rockfalls.

Between 16:00 yesterday and 16:00 today there were 16 rockfalls, 3 hybrid earthquakes, 3 volcano-tectonic earthquakes and 1 long period earthquake.

This morning, a rockfall was observed down Tuitts ghaut. This was confirmed when fresh deposits were observed in Tuitts during a helicopter observation flight. A mudflow occurred between 0320-0350 last night. Considerable fresh mudflow material was observed in the Belham valley

There was also a mission to study and collect samples from the Boxing Day deposits.

Dust levels at all monitoring stations were low today.
