Montserrat Volcano Observatory

Morning Report
Report for the period 6 pm 1 April
to 7 am 2 April 1998

Volcanic activity has remained at a relatively low level overnight, although there was a slight increase in the rockfall activity. Occasional earthquake signals and a mudlow signal, corresponding with a period of heavy rain, were also recorded on the seismograph network last night. One rockfall was observed this morning down the north-east face of the dome. This should be confirmed by an observation flight later today.

Early morning visibility is excellent with good views of the summit area and the prominent spine.

Residents are reminded to keep listening to Radio Montserrat for any further information.
