Daily Report
Report for the period 6 pm 26 March
to 6 pm 27 March 1998

The level of volcanic activity over the past 24 hours has remained low.

Between 4:00pm yesterday and 4:00pm today there were just 2 rockfall events.

Observations of the dome late this afternoon suggest that there has been little change in the last few days. A very small amount of material has been removed from the eastern face of the dome by rockfall activity.

EDM measurements were made today of the line between the north side of the crater rim and Windy Hill. This line shows continued shortening and has now shortened by a total of 9cm since 25 January 1998.

The latest dome volume survey has revealed that the current volume is about 112 million cubic metres. This is the largest recorded dome volume so far during this eruption. The total erupted volume of rock to date is about 300 million cubic metres.

Dust levels at all the monitoring stations were low today.

Residents are reminded to keep listening to Radio Montserrat for any further information.
