to 6 pm 11 March 1998


Activity has remained low throughout the reporting period although there has been a localised increase in tremor activity at stations on the eastern flank of the volcano. This localised activity reached a peak between 4 and 6am this morning.

Between 16.00 yesterday and 16.00 today there were 24 long period earthquakes, 1 hybrid earthquake, 1 volcano-tectonic earthquake and 3 rockfalls. There was also a regional earthquake just before midnight last night. The long period events were small and most occurred during the peak in tremor activity early this morning.

Visibility of the dome was poor today and no observations were made of the dome.

The long GPS occupation of the line between Harris and Long Ground was completed today and a long occupation of the line between Harris and Whites will run overnight.

Dust levels at all sites were low today.
