Montserrat Volcano Observatory

Morning Report
Report for the period 6 pm 6 February
to 7 am 7 February 1998

The activity at the volcano has been lower overnight. The most dominant seismic signals are still rockfalls, but there were fewer signals and they were lower amplitude and shorter duration. Yesterday this activity was confirmed to be occurring on the Galways side of the dome.

The air is once again hazy in the northern part of the island due to re-suspended ash in the atmosphere, although the conditions are not as poor as yesterday. This could still make driving hazardous. Ash masks should be worn outdoors or in ashy conditions at all times.

Residents are reminded to remain alert and listen to ZJB radio for further information.
