Montserrat Volcano Observatory

Morning Report
Report for the period 6 pm 5 February
to 7 am 6 February 1998

The volcano has again been active overnight. The most dominant seismic signals being rockfalls. This activity is believed to be occurring on the Galways side of the dome.

Light ashfall has occurred in most occupied areas north of the volcano in the early hours this morning. Conditions are hazy in these areas due to the suspended ash in the atmosphere and this could make driving hazardous. Ash masks should be worn outdoors or in ash conditions at all times.

Residents are reminded to remain alert and listen to ZJB radio for further information
