Montserrat Volcano Observatory

Morning Report
Report for the period 6 pm 3 February
to 7 am 4 February 1998

The volcano has been slightly more active again overnight. There were many rockfall signals throughout the night with a period of near continuous large rockfall or small pyroclastic flow signals between 4 and 5 this morning. These signals are believed to have been caused by activity on the Galways side of the dome, as has been the case recently. Moderate ashfall has been reported in Salem and Olveston and ash has also fallen further north, with a light fall in the St John's area.

Residents are reminded to remain alert and listen to ZJB radio for further information
