Montserrat Volcano Observatory

Morning Report
Report for the period 6 pm 31 January
to 7 am 1 February 1998

Activity at the volcano has again been dominated by rockfall activity overnight. There were two periods of enhanced activity during this period, at about 7 pm last night and at about 4 am this morning. The volcano is beginning to show a strong cyclicity again, with an interval of 10 to 12 hours between periods of higher rockfall activity. The wind has shifted back around to the west so that any ash fall during the day should be confined to the southernmost populated areas on Montserrat

Residents are reminded to remain alert and listen to ZJB radio for further information
