Montserrat Volcano Observatory

Morning Report
Report for the period 6 pm 30 January
to 7 am 31 January 1998

Activity at the volcano has been dominated by rockfall activity overnight, with a number of rockfalls being recorded on the network. There was a period of near continuos rockfall activity starting at about 3:30 am continuing until about 5:00 am, with a slightly peaked period at about 4:00 am. Since that time, there have been very few events. Light but sustained ash fall occurred overnight mainly in the north of the island and as far back as St.Peters. All indications are that the dome continues to grow quickly.

Residents are reminded to remain alert and listen to ZJB radio for further information
