Montserrat Volcano Observatory

Morning Report
Report for the period 6 pm 27 January
to 7 am 28 January 1998

The volcano has remained relatively quiet overnight, with a very short period of near continuos rockfall activity which started at about 10 pm and midnight last night and lasted for just about thirty-five minutes being the main item of note. There was no significant increase in the size or number of the other types of events.

Although seismicity is low, all indications are that the dome continues to grow fast in the southwest sector of the volcano.

Residents are reminded to remain alert and listen to ZJB radio for further information
