Montserrat Volcano Observatory

Morning Report
Report for the period 6 pm 24 January
to 7 am 25 January 1998

The volcano has again been relatively quiet overnight with small rockfall signals being almost the only seismicity recorded. These rockfalls are continuing to follow an approximately 12 hour cycle, with the most recent peak in seismic amplitude occurring at 5 this morning. This activity is typical of dome growth and is believed to correspond to continued growth on the Galways side of the volcano.
