Daily Report
Report for the period 6 pm 29 November
to 6 pm 30 November 1997

Volcanic activity has remained at a subdued level. However, ash- and steam venting have continued unabated. Seismicity was dominated by rockfall signals. Visibility of the mountain has been restricted and no observations of the dome have been possible.

Between 16:00 yesterday and 16:00 today there were 12 long-period earthquakes, 52 rockfall signals and 1 hybrid earthquakes. Four rockfall events appeared to have been triggered by long-period events. One near regional event was recorded on the local network late yesterday evening which was reported to have been felt in Antigua.

The dome is believed to be growing, and pyroclastic flows could occur down any of the ghauts around the volcano with little warning.

Dr Jurgen Neuberg and Ms Caroline Choux arrived at MVO last evening, and Prof. Barry Voight arrived today. Rob Watts left today after his tour of duty.
