Montserrat Volcano Observatory

Morning Report
Report for the period 6 pm 27 November
to 7 am 28 November 1997

The elevated seismicity caused by yesterday afternoon's pyroclastic flows down Galways continued with reduced amplitude until about 8 last night. This suggests that large rockfalls or small pyroclastic flows were continuing. Overnight more rockfall signals and a few small hybrid earthquakes were recorded. Yesterday's activity shows that pyroclastic flows can occur without any warning and as the dome continues to grow these can be expected to travel down ghauts on any flank of the volcano. Everyone is advised to listen to Radio Montserrat for any new information.
