Morning Report
Report for the period 6 pm 18 November
to 7 am 19 November 1997

Overnight, the seismographs monitoring the Soufriere Hills volcano recorded signals associated with episodic ash venting, continued degassing, and rockfalls from the dome. There was a moderate increase in the intensity of seismic activity soon after 6pm on 18 November, lasting about three hours, which then declined slowly over the rest of the period.

It is believed that the dome continues to grow and so more pyroclastic flows can be expected, which may travel down ghauts on any flank of the volcano. Everyone is advised to listen to Radio Montserrat for any new information.
