Volcanic seismicity has again been dominated by rockfall signals today. Poor visibility has again hampered visual observations.
Between 16:00 yesterday and 16:00 today there were 6 hybrid earthquakes, 11 long-period earthquakes and 8 volcano-tectonic earthquakes. There were 87 rockfall signals, some of which were of moderate amplitude. The location of the rockfalls is unclear at the moment. No rockfalls were observed on the north side of the volcano so most activity is still probably on and around the new dome above Galways. The level of ash in the atmosphere, as averaged over the last 24 hours in St Peter's and in St John's, was low.
The dome is still growing and the growth area may switch rapidly at any time. Further pyroclastic flows are likely in any of the ghauts around the volcano.
